An Architectural Abecedario

A work in progress, our architectural abecedario will comprise 26 small-scale watercolor vignettes that incorporate each letter of the alphabet in a related architectural or garden theme. Taking their inspiration from Ancien Regime France and the Grand Tour, the watercolors evoke the playfulness and exoticism that inspired the architects and garden designers of the period.

The Exhibition

The exhibition, "An Architectural Abecedario," will open at the Galerie de Bayser in Paris, France's foremost Old Master drawings dealers, on Thursday, September 18th, 2008, and will run until the end of that month. Along with the watercolors devoted to the alphabet, it will also feature related watercolors of architecture and garden ornament. Please use the above gallery link to request an invitation, or contact us directly for further information.

The Book

To coincide with the opening of the exhibition, Connaissance et Memoires will be publishing "The Architectural Abecedario of Messrs Zega and Dams." The small-format volume (7 x 8 1/2 in., 96 pages) will present the alphabet in a collector's edition of exceptional quality, to be prefaced by Charlotte Moss, the Manhattan-based interior designer, and the marquis de Breteuil, proprietor of the chateau de Breteuil.

The volume will be signed and numbered and bound in silk, in the Chinese fashion, and slipcased. The same quality papers and advanced printing techniques used for our previous artist's books, Chinoiseries and Versailles, will ensure that this volume meets those exceptional standards.
